What is the issue?

Broken images create a negative user experience. Images on your site are important visual elements helping users better understand the web content, leading to a higher conversion rate.

How to fix

Broken images can occur when an image has been deleted from the server or media library but is embedded on a webpage (error 4xx), or if the image did not load fast enough (error 5xx). Errors with a 5xx status code can be fixed by compressing the image. If this doesn't solve the problem, you should replace the image. For 4xx errors, ensure the image is still available, change the image, or delete it.

  1. The columns “incoming links" and "incoming references” show how many links there are to the broken images.

  2. To view the complete list, click on the number and a new window will open.

  3. Look at the column “anchor text” to find where the image is on the page. Or, open the reference in your browser, right-click, and view the page source, where you can copy and paste the broken image link into the find function to see where the image is.

  4. Then either you or your developer can change the image link in the source code.
